Should have been on 18.05 from Zurich into London city last night. Cancelled.
Put on 20.50 into Heathrow. Cancelled.
Got out today on 12.05 with Swiss air. Should be home in half an hour.
Was put into Hilton overnight with a 30CHF voucher. Blew it on the most expensive single malt and went to bed.

"We might well be more and more dependent on computers but not to have a back up system on something as mission critical as this, is totally unacceptable :

Very true.
Banks have DR systems which are designed to enable switching from production to backup systems in the blink of any eye (well, almost).

Perhaps money is deemed more critical than the lives of thousands of plebs.

I imagine what we have here is a sexy front-end system with support from a squad of high-end techies that is bound by sellotape and string to a decades old back-end that only Bert and Joe can understand and they were both outside having a fag.

A system is only as strong as it's weakest point.

If this was a military installation, there would have been a double on-site back-up, a double, remote, off-site back-up and a third, additional remote option. All tax-payer funded, naturally.

Commercially, provision of this system was sold to the lowest "Headline" bidder and whatever civil servant signed for it truly believed the "100% reliable...trust me" bit in the sales spiel.

After all. it's really only the general public it affects, isn't it?

Lower flight level plans being used for some flights so some planes getting away so if doing short routes may be lucky if going to USA etc I guess you are fucked

Seems a bit odd that in 2014 a computer glitch can cause this much shit.
